I've done it every year after they get active. Never harmed 'em. Easy way to tell which ones are still alive after the winter. Also the only way to get the new ones that I don't want that are coming up.

Now getting dive bombed by a pair of Orioles that set up their nest in a birdhouse on my front porch right above the area I'm working on.
