Tide tables

After finding an app for phone and PC called Windfinder, I found that its high and low tide markers are off by between two and three hours (for Gilgo Beach).
I had been using "Tides by Me", a Jones Inlet tide table provided by my town, Snoozeday and the Bunger surf shop. Windfinder pleased me the most regarding, what else, wind,
but it was nice, underline was, just going to a single app for wind, tide, etc. Its almost as though Windfinder is using the BAY side of Gilgo beach. Anyone else see this
happening in their neck of the woods ? Which app do you use?

An app called Tides. You get a display and can move the cursor along the curve to get the exact height and time for anything.

Regarding Tides the "Gold Standard" is not any app but the annual paper publication known as the Eldridge Tide and Pilot Book. It is available at any West Marine location and many other boating supply stores.

A veritable encyclopedia full of navigational information including tide cycles. velocity, moon phases, sunrise/sunset times, aids to navigation, lighting schemes, etc., etc. I promise you it is the best $20 you will spend each year when it comes to critical data planning your fishing/boating activities. In fact, it is such an important publication that under maritime law, it is required to have a copy present on the bridge of all federally documented vessels.

Regarding wind predictions, there are many sources you can check including Windfinder, Windy.com, Passage Maker, and the old standby NOAA Marine forecasts. Like most hard-core fisherman, I typically drive myself nearly insane checking many models in advance of any trip. If I can see agreement in 3 of the sources, I tend to accept that as the closest prediction as to what will actually happen.

I too tend to rely heavily on Windfiner, both their Standard and "Superforecast models. In general, what I find is that Windfinder tends to overestimate the actual wind speeds on any given day while NOAA tends to underestimate the strength of the wind in advance. So, typically the actual wind velocity tends to come in somewhere in between these two models.

I always include a mention and some reference to the use of Eldridge at my presentations. If Ward Melville offers me a speaking slot again next spring, I will be sure to expand that section of my talk a little more.

I used to be a stickler for wind, tide and moon phases concentration my efforts during optimal periods.

I hear you. Surfcasting I avoid easterlies over 10 kts or anything over 15kts. Kayaking I avoid southerlies over 10 kts and anything over 15kts. An enjoyable day with or without fish is my goal. I used to avoid dead low but have caught fish at it so I really just need to know the wind and current combo on the yak in general. But finding out that Fishfinder uses Gilgo Beach Heading as "Gilgo" and not the oceanfront Gilgo, courtesy of gents on stripersonline, solved my problem. 2 1/2 hour difference.
