Had Capt Mike join me yesterday to try our hand at the elusive Fluke. Wind forecast was not bad but just not ideal for wind and tide drifts on my inside bay spots that have had some fish. Took a couple of quick bay drifts and got a few runoffs but no takers. Headed to the Ocean with what was initially a NE wind. Set up the first couple of drifts which produced a couple of nice plump shorts. Figuring out a nice drift from where I wanted to start and avoid all of the pots that are out there was a challenge but got it to work. Next drift Mike gets a solid hit and after a spirited battle I get the net under what turned out to be a 26” fat beauty that was likely 6-7 lbs. No scale on board 
. Figured OK, this is the start of a great day. The wind quickly changed to E, then ESE, and we could not duplicate the same drift line. Had to contend with paying attention to drifting through and avoiding the pots. Had a steady flow of shorts including some heartbreakers and some very shorts but no more keepers. Was concerned about the wind changing to full S with the ebb tide at the inlet so came back into the bay. Found a reasonable wind with tide drift and non stop action with very short shorts but no more keepers.
So the positives are a great day on the water with lots of laughs with great company fishing along side a guy I watch and learn a bit more from every time, the best fluke of the year on my boat, and NO skates, no dogs, no birds were caught
