Titanium Fishing Pliers

Just in case anyone get "hooked", I carry a pair of small bolt cutters on the boat. I have seen videos where experienced Captains tie string around the hook and remove it. Not for me. I would rather cut the barb off.

I saw a used pair of Gomexus Titanium Fishing Pliers 7.5". Hooks are pretty hard and I know there are different sizes. Will Titanium pliers cut hooks or mostly just fishing line? Not sure if the brand name matters.

Gomexus Titanium Fishing Pliers 7.5 - I have a pair of these new to me this year and a more heavy duty pair too. I have no idea if they will cut a hook. As I think about it, I seem to remember that they should not be used to cut wire over 100lb test.

Look towards the bottom of the advertisement.

I guess it also depends on size of hook.

Oh, and after 2 seasons I really like them. Cutting still like the first day - braid up to 60lb, down to 10lb. Mono, flouro, etc. Always a clean cut. And - they come with replacement cutter blades. The only downside is that the beautiful leather sheath has a belt clip not a belt loop. I have never had mine come off the belt, but have heard of a few folks where it did.

I use Accurate fishing pliers. These are not suitable for cutting hooks. A good pair of heavy duty linesmen pliers, like Klein, or Channellock should do the job on most inshore hooks. The one drawback is they are not SS. They need to be kept in a watertight package. On the plus side you should carry a pair in your on board toolbox anyway. And they are a lot less $$ than “fishing or marine” pliers.
