Trolling for bass and inshore fluking

I trolled from Jones Inlet to Deb's Inlet on Thursday morning. I was in 30 to 40 feet of water trolling a white bunker spoon, a chartreuse Mojo and then a deep diving plug. Not a touch. I saw an occasional mark on the screen and a few birds here and there. I put in about 3 hours and then shot over to the McAllister Grounds since I saw a bunch of boats there. I threw in a fluke rig but as I suspected there was nothing.

I came inshore and went down Reynolds to the High School area. I got two short fluke and a giant searobin on a sproa bucktail with a gulp teaser.

Another beautiful day on the water with no fish to show for it. I saw a small pod of porpoises and heard some chatter on the radio about bluefin tuna. I thought someone was in quarantine a little too long. Usually the channel 68 BS doesn't start till summer. I heard it several times during the day and it sounded like different voices. Who knows, it has been a really weird 2020 so far so this wouldn't surprise me.

I was fishing to the west of you by breezy point. Usually full of life by now but to my surprise only one or two marks. There were some bunker around and did see about 6 dolphin feeding on the bunker. Headed into main channel and found miles of bunker but nothing under them. Still can’t believe it’s middle of May and that area is dead

There's a lot of that happening right now. Hopefully, They will show soon.

Funny thing is they are in the back bay under the bunker. Just don’t know why not in inlet where they usually are

There are bluefin outside fire island and between jones guys were talking a lot about them today on the radio

I thought that I had copied and pasted the link to the entire report. It doesn't say much more additionally than the fact that it was 40 feet of water which is what I heard them talking about on channel 68.

I thought it was George who posted the report but apparently it is an unnamed NY Angler reporter. I am hoping that there are some pictures posted and some more information eventually.

I remember past late November early December sightings of bluefins along the south shore but that the fish were just on the move. No one reported hooking up even with some very experienced people trying to get them to bite. This is the first time I have heard of this in the spring. I hope they are still out there after this crap early in the week blows through. Although I don't know what I would do with a giant bluefin on the end of my wire line rod with a bunker spoon in his mouth.
