Truck opinions/ experiences

Hello, my NYANGLERS .
Obviously, you know I am a GM fan.
So I have a question my son is looking to buy a light duty work truck a four-door pick up specifically. Such as an F150 or a GM 1500 forget about Dodge cause they don’t even come into the equation. I’d like to know your opinions and your experiences with both of these his main work truck is a Ford transit 3500 series Dooley. I’ve been a GM guy my whole life. I don’t know how my son picked Ford as his go to manufacturer so I would really appreciate any input. You could give me good or bad on both sides.

I don't know why you would disregard the Ram 1500. I bought a '14 back in 2020 with 45K on the clock, found it on Craigs list of all places. It's been solid for me since with 135K on it now and only one time in the shop for a leaking tranny line (thanks Cany). Mine is a basic model, with the 5.7 and 6 speed trans, 4x4, so not a ton of bells and whistles to go bad. It could use some new bushings in the suspension now, but thats wear and tear. Otherwise, drives great, comfortable and plenty of power. Very happy with it, or just lucky who knows.

They all have their problems, with the GM cylinder deactivation causing lifters to stick and usually ruining the motors, and Ford with the plastic cam phasers that fall apart and detonate their engines also.

Regardless, price of new and used pick up trucks is insane.

Chevy, I agree with AllyKat. I have a 2010 Ram 1500 Laramie with 4 wheel drive. I tow a 27' Contender all over the place and this thing won't die. I can afford to buy another truck but why, this one is still in great condition and I cannot believe how good the body is holding up. The only rust is on my running boards. There is a flaw with the Hemi exhaust manifolds and they occasionally break a bolt usually on the rear, right side. I had one replaced and it's been good since. I have 160,000 miles on it and I feel the ride is one of the best in 1500 pickup trucks.

I have 2019 Ram 1500, I absolutely love my truck, I know up to retirement I had a company work truck so my 19” only has 54k on it. But I find it to be very dependable. I know they have done away with the hemi engines, they make a 1500 with a 6 cylinder work truck.

He got a 2020 Ford
