Whats your go too heart burn reviler? I like Tums and Zantac They dont always help might need to try something different

Get yourself on some omeprazole. CBD oil helps amazingly as well as baking soda with some water to neutralize the acidity. You can also try to cut down on acidic foods and eat more alkaline foods :)

Thanks Jenna Ive heard about Baking soda Guess Im gonna have too try it

I dont want no GD proton pump thats just weird

OY!!! We all have proton pumps in the cell membranes of the lining in your stomach. When you get heartburn these pumps work overtime pumping protons (acid) into your stomach. Your stomach needs acid for digestion, but make too much and you get heartburn

something to think about

I think about it all the time. There are two types of acid reflux. Your regular "garden store" variety where you actually experience the acid reflux & - for lack of a better word "silent acid reflux".

I have the latter. Tums, Rolaids, Antacids have little or no effect on it. Because 99.9% of the time you aren't experiencing heartburn or an acidic taste in your throat. That's when it works its "magic".

This type requires a complete lifestyle/diet change.
  • no tomatoes or dishes with tomatoes (draw your own conclusion)
  • no caffeine (coffee, tea or soda of the caffeinated variety)
  • no chocolate (caffeine)
  • no acidic juices (orange, grapefruit, cranberry, etc)
  • no acidic fruits (grapefruit, oranges, cranberries, etc.)
  • no alcohol (not acidic - but it makes your esophagus for all intents & purposes drunk - causing it to fail to prevent the acid in your stomach from rising beyond it
  • no smoking (hence why I gave it up a little over a year ago)
  • no spicy food (Mexican/Buffalo Sauce/Peppers/you can figure it out from here
  • pickled foods (surprisingly - sauerkraut is actually good for it - different type of acid)
  • no eating 3 hours before bed
  • oh so much more
If you want to know basically what your diet should be go here
If you want to know more go here

How did I find out about this if I have the "silent type" you ask?
I'm sure at least one of you were.

I was already taking Omeprazole for occasional heartburn. OTC of course because I didn't think I had a "real" problem. Did you know it's cheaper to buy this med on a prescription rather then over the counter? So if you're taking it - ask your doc for a prescription.

It "seemed" to work. The heartburn stopped.
The reflux however.............

About 2 years ago I kept feeling like there was something stuck in the back of my throat. Wouldn't go away. Began to make me cough more frequently as well. Throat reaction trying to unlodge what was ever it thought was stuck back there I guess.

I kept putting it off - month after month - after month.
One reason I guess is I didn't like going to the doctor. Not for any particular reason - but I guess I kept doing that "guy thing".
"It'll clear up."
The other? I guess I didn't want to be told it was cancer.
(50 year smoker)

Anywho...........

About a year ago I went to see the doc.
"Hey doc. I got dis here ting in da backa ma troat."

He took a look. Thought it looked like some sort of pallop. The pallop was what was making me cough. Interacting with my tongue(?). That part's a little hazy.

Sent me to an ENT Doc.

ENT Doc looked & scheduled me for in office surgery. It was all damage to my throat & part of my tongue from - say it together - Acid Reflux.
This entailed knocking me out & basically "scrapping" the whole back of my throat - roof of my mouth & tongue to remove the damaged tissue.

It went for a biopsy. Biopsy came back benign with a special reading on something that as I recall started with a Y. When I looked it up - it was a precancerous lesion. Yes. Relux can give you cancer of the tongue, mouth & esophagus.

So it's nothing to mess around with & having a "Which is better thread" is not necessarily the best way to treat it.
If it's persistent (& even if it's not) - see a doctor.

I used to use rolaids until about 2010 when they yanked them off the shelves and you could only get the gum type for quite some time. I could never find a reasonable answer as to why they were unavailable for so long. Tums never worked for me but the baking soda and water did for me.

Staying on topic (I think) my grandmother always said to drink orange soda with hot dogs so you don't get an upset stomach. I still do it to this day like a well trained dog, also have it with pizza and it works for me. Probably all in my head but still it works for me.
