Lots of great info there. I was on a few of those early day with no limit trips! If I had to choose 1 outfit for PB tuna fishing it would be a 50-80lb or 60-100lb rod matched with a quality 30 class reel.(Tiagra/International)
If you wanted to use your Saltiga 40, get yourself a 50-80lb class rod and spool up with 60lb mono. It's a little light for PB fishing but will do the job as 80% of the fish will be 40-60lbs.
Before you go, find our what kind of rental rods the boat provides. Some actually carry quality stuff. Might be better off renting an outfit for the trip and spending your money on fluorocarbon leader and owner hooks!
Good luck
I fished on the Klondike in those years. I wish we had video in those days. There's just no words to describe 15 Anglers hooked up on 200 pounds plus bluefin at the same time. Captain Pete Pearson screaming at everyone from the bridge. Now that was a fire drillI started tuna fishing in the "freight train alley" era.
We sure were spoiled![]()
