Ward Melville 2025

Actually, understanding both Tides and current flow are important to being able to score consistently with all species. I will provide both some basics and a bit more detailed information in a classroom setting.
Excellent Capt. Mike. I'm always amazed that fishing friends have clue that, for the most part, we fish currents and currents are not tides. It's a confusing subject for me to explain. You always get the question, how can the tide rise as the current is going out? I cannot explain it and tell them to just trust me on this one. I understand the water bulge from the moon but I have yet to understand why or how the tide can go up as the current goes out and vice versa. I have never been to any Fishing Expo's. I'm going to try to come to this one and I hope to listen to your explanation of Tides and Currents.

I hope that you can come by, Crabman, as I would love to meet you in person.

Perhaps one of my own shortcomings is I often try to cram too much information into too short a time frame. But what I do present will be quality stuff. So, I hope folks are not expecting a graduate level course in Tides rolled into the balance of my talk. If I had the opportunity, I could easily do a full hour on this topic alone.

Regarding the subject of Tides and Currents, as you noted, this is a complex topic and there are many factors contributing to the ways nature presents itself to us. I also mentioned in a prior post that while I will do my best to cover those aspects of tides and currents critical to fishing in this presentation, I can only scratch the surface in the brief amount of time I have allocated.

But I can promise you, and anyone who attends, that I will have a few slides with some very clear illustrations of what is happening on the water during different tidal stages, periods of current flow, and moon phases. Also, this topic comes up in the first section of my talk which begins at 9 a.m. So, if this topic is of interest I suggest you get there early.

Here is the complete seminar schedule.

Got it. Thanks Capt. Mike. I totally understand how fast time flies as a speaker. You think an hour is enough time and in a blink, you have five minutes left with much more to say. I'm sure you will enlighten a lot of people with your discussion of tides and currents.

I have have every intention and hope to get there and parked in time to get in to this Capt Mike!
A common friend of ours lives close by to WM and Im considering nudging my way into parking at his house and jumping in with him😎

Hoping i can attend this year. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I'm getting back surgery on Monday so it all will depend on how I'm feeling.
You are a young, strong guy whom I am sure will do just fine with the surgery. But if you are not feeling up to it don't rush the recovery period.

After all, you need to be in top shape for all those massive fish you plan to catch this season, plus another special event coming down the pike for you and the family.

If you cannot make it to WM then I promise to provide you with a personal replay of the Tides & Currents section of my talk. That is if you can stand listening to me throw the BS around even longer than I usually do on the charters!!!:ROFLMAO:

HAHA, you know I enjoy your talks.

Maybe you can record that replay and send it to some of the rest of us???
I tend to have a bit of ADHD with sensory overload and concentration issues and need to read and listen to important stuff a few times before it sinks in 😎
Not sure if its age related or a result of all the crazy music I listened to 🤣

I was thinking the same thing. It is hard, and I have tried, to take notes of the seminars.

Are any or all of the seminars recorded?

While I am not responsible for recording the seminars, as Lep said, I am pretty sure they do film each one and the club is usually very open about sharing this information. If it is readily available, I am sure Lep will post the links again this year.

I know I tend to speak pretty fast, especially when trying to cover a broad range of topics. If anyone wants to spend more time on a given subject, you always have the option of stopping by my table in the gym as I will be there all day.

If it's too busy or the timing is not practical for you, please contact me separately and I will be happy to have a personal in-depth discussion. Plus, I have no problem sharing my slides with you if it will help.

Finally, if all else fails, you can always book a charter and have the opportunity to ask questions all day while getting real time instruction and catching fish as well. Sounds like a win-win to me!:)

Here's a couple of last year's seminars - worth the watching. Skinner is always good, and Bob Schmitt docks his Grady 22' Charter boat "Sea Rogue" across from me in my marina.

Sorry folks, we don't have a plan to tape them this year. I will mention it to the kids for next year. While the school has the equipment to tape I would imagine, they belong to specific departments and we do not have full access to everyone's everything.

I do see the seminars all the time pop up on YouTube, pod casts (vlogs I guess) and on this website!!
