Wash Down

Tried searching on here and I couldn't find a topic on it, so here it goes. How does everyone wash thier gear down after a day of fishing? I do a mist on the reels, back off the drag then I'll just spray down the rod and wipe it down including the guides. Does anyone use any products or different techniques?

SNAPPLE: being a beach fisherman, It’s a must for me to wash the poles after each outing…

removing the reels and directing the water stream into the real seat & threads clearing of any sand…

then the bait / fish slime is not a good look, it’s gotta go…

yes, the reels get a full doushe, sometimes removing the spools and a few cranks to follow…

I keep a spray bottle with dawn and water on the boat rinse the rods and reels first with the hose then spray with the bottle wait a couple of minutes and rinse again.

I was just going to say that. Takes oil etc off the reel.

I have been doing it for years and my reels are fine.

Reels get removed and wiped with a damp cloth. Never direct water. Never dish soap.
Rods get washed down thoroughly with soap and water especially the guides and reel seat.
Even if I'm on a boat doing a multi day trip, I'll wipe all my rods and reels down with a rag wet with bottled water at end of every day.

I'm a frigging Barbarian, from the Use 'em and Rack 'em school of indifference.

In the spring when I realize I've abused them, I'll take the reels off and tend to them, and take the rods into the shower with me for a good cleaning. It's getting to be that time right about now...

I use just water and hose them down while cleaning the boat. When I get home they get a second rinse with water then wiped down and hung in the garage till next trip

Dock boat, tighten drags, rods in the dock rod holders, heavy spray on rods, very light mist on reels, loosen drags. Air dry, take home, damp towel complete wipe down, drop of oil on level winds, bail rollers and at the base of handle knobs. Put in garage, check/tie new rigs, and wait for next trip.

I also never fish a new reel out of the box. I always take a new reel apart and lube, lube, lube. Friction is the death of a reel.....or anything else mechanical for that matter!

Every second or third trip, rod and reel get a wipe down with Penn Rod and Reel cleaner. Maybe it is a lot, but sure keeps equipment functioning well and, although admittedly less important, looking good.
