Wader - Haven't gotten out recently because I just moved (that's twice in 5 months) but I'm back on the black that I originally moved to from LI, so I am pleased. I shouldn't be moving again anytime soon lol. There are still some resident puppy drum and specs to be caught, as well as the sweet water species, and I hope to get out in the near future for a little r&r. Yesterday would have been perfect (around 65 degrees and sunny) but I'm doing a house flipper marathon weekend job lol.

Right on the border. I'm sure I asked you already, but have forgotten, where are you located? I think you said you were on the eastern shore. I want to fish the concrete ships in Kiptopeke this spring for blackfish.

Big Redfish also. This one was around 50 lbs.

Eastern Shore about 40 miles north of the CBBT

They take lures ?
Yes, they do. In the early spring I tend to fish for slot size reds, what are called Puppy Drum, with leadheads and rubber bodies, not unlike fishing for schoolie bass. Once mullet show up I cast net mullet and use them for bait. For the bull Reds in the fall, I use fresh Spot, mostly the heads, but the bodies also. Red Drum and Striped Bass are very similar in their habits and diet, except bull Reds are more likely to get into breaking water. Here's a video of me fishing Lynnhaven Bay for Puppy Drum. I was wore out at the end of the day lol.

your fishing gear for the yak is basically what I fish with on both kayak and boat. If a reel is going to fail, or a guide fall apart, I will usually know it before I get to the bay anyway. why spend more ?
