What Turns The Bass On & Off

Got an early start to catch the flood in the eastern Peconic. Love this time of year when it starts to get light at 5AM. The striper Gods were with me as the first drift resulted in a 30" fish boated & on ice, then not a hit for the next 1/2Hr. The next 1 & 1/2hr was non stop action producing 6 more bass, a few looked a little short & a few looked a little too big, all returned. Then some far away mythical being flipped a switch & the fish turned off, still a good amount of fish on the screen just not interested in anything I had, same wind, tide still running, just turned off. I guess that's bass fishing, & why we keep coming back for more.

I pulled out of my slip this morning for a quick 2 hour trip before work
Very seriously thought about going through the canal and heading that way
Not looking for exact info but when you say “eastern peconic” are you meaning east or west of jessups???

Do you have a preference of before or after the moon?

I've notice a few things that can flip the switch on or off.
When they are biting at a new spot, marking the waypoint on the GPS can shut it down quick.
Receiving a phone call, digging through your tackle box or getting the hose and brush to do a little cleaning can turn a drought into a fire drill.
The fastest way to turn off a hot bite is to phone a friend and suggest they head over.

I can tell ya they turned off today, for me anyway. Made it back to the Peconic & all I found were bluefish intent on eating my bucktails. Sometimes the bass take a hike, or they are present & the big bluefish just beat them to the bait.
