Trump wanted $90M for inauguration while cutting $190M from cancer research: lawmaker

WHATTA GUY!!!!

"There was $90 million on basically page one of the legislation that is for [Trump's] inauguration party," Crockett said. "The idea we would say it is okay for you to get $90 million for one day and then cut out $190 million for children when it comes to cancer research was absolutely mind-blowing."

"Thank you to the Democratically controlled Senate. On their way out of the majority, they decided they were going to do some good," she continued. "They made sure the funding got back in."

'Not going to get better': GOP bemoans chaos as they realize Trump agenda in jeopardy

And according to Semafor's Burgess Everett, it's settling in for some GOP lawmakers that when they take unified control of Congress in January, things are only going to go further off the rails.

“One of the things that I’ve learned about myself, the older I get, the more sanguine [I am] … because otherwise I’d be a screaming mess,” Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) told Semafor. “It’s not going to get better, like early in the year particularly.”

THANKS JOE!! ACCOLADES AND RESPECT WORLDWIDE LGB!!

State of play: German Chancellor Olaf Scholz wrote on X on Sunday, "Joe Biden has achieved a lot: for his country, for Europe, for the world. Thanks to him, transatlantic cooperation is close, NATO is strong and the USA is a good and reliable partner for us."

  • Keir Starmer, the U.K.'s new prime minister, said on X he was sure Biden had "made his decision based on what he believes is best for the American people."
  • Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in a post to X praised Biden as a "partner to Canadians — and a true friend."
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Biden in a post to X for his "unwavering" and "critical" support as his country battles Russia's invading forces, and expressed hopes that the U.S. would continue to show leadership.
Zoom in: Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris said Biden had been a "voice for reason, effective multilateralism and shared solutions" and added that he was a "proud American with an Irish soul."

  • Biden has supported Israel over the course of the Israel-Hamas war, and Israeli President Isaac Herzog thanked Biden on X for his "friendship and steadfast support," calling him "a true ally of the Jewish people."
  • Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote on X that Biden's leadership had ensured that "Poland, America and the world are safer."
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters Sunday that Russia must "be patient and carefully monitor what happens," Reuters reported.

The big picture: Biden has led the U.S. as it navigated wars in Europe and the Middle East.

  • He proved to be an especially strong supporter of Ukraine and NATO, and also assembled the AUKUS alliance.
  • Trump is a NATO-skeptic, who said this year that he would "encourage" Russia "to do whatever the hell they want" to a NATO ally if the country wasn't meeting defense spending obligations.
  • Trump has reportedly said privately he would end Russia's invasion of Ukraine by pressuring Kyiv to cede territory — a proposition Ukraine opposes.
  • During his previous term, Trump regularly flouted the post-World War II international order the U.S. had helped create, including by withdrawing the U.S. from the UN Human Rights Council and the Paris climate agreement.

What is DOGE, the new department Musk and Ramaswamy will lead under the Trump administration?

Department of Government Efficiency

@DOGE

What does the U.S. Government use taxpayer dollars for?

-$6.9M studying ‘smart toilets’ that recognize the user’s ‘anal print’

-$2.3M for the NIH to inject dogs with cocaine -

$118,000 to study if a metal replica robot of Marvel Comics’ Thanos could really snap his fingers

- $75,000 in grants on a Harvard study on lizards being blown off trees with leaf blowers.

Conservatives and allies of President-elect Trump are dismantling a narrative put forth by Democratic lawmakers such as Sen. Elizabeth Warren that Republicans blocked funding for childhood cancer research in the spending bill, pointing to a stand-alone bill that had languished in the Democratic-controlled Senate for months.

The House passed a stand-alone bill on March 5, at a vote of 384-4, that allocated millions of dollars per year for pediatric research through 2028. The bill was delivered to the Senate on March 6, but Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., had not taken action on the legislation, sparking condemnation from conservatives months later that Democrats used the research funding as a "bargaining chip."

Watch for fake news!

"YouTuber and prominent flat-earther Jeran Campanella has publicly admitted he was wrong about his conspiracy theory after witnessing a 24-hour sun in Antarctica. The phenomenon, which is impossible on a flat Earth, led Campanella to reconsider his stance during a 9,000-mile journey to the southernmost continent.
Campanella, who traveled from Salinas, California, on a trip costing $37,700, confessed to his followers after seeing the sun circle the sky without setting.
"Sometimes you are wrong in life. I thought there was no 24-hour sun. In fact, I was pretty sure of it," he admitted. The journey was filmed for a livestream broadcast, featuring breathtaking footage of Antarctica's landscape and the unending daylight."
