President Donald Trump's administration has moved to block the New York City congestion pricing toll program.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy penned a letter informing New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Wednesday that the Federal Highway Administration's approval of the pilot program was "not authorized by law."

"New York State’s congestion pricing plan is a slap in the face to working class Americans and small business owners," Duffy also said in a statement obtained by Fox News Digital. "Commuters using the highway system to enter New York City have already financed the construction and improvement of these highways through the payment of gas taxes and other taxes. But now the toll program leaves drivers without any free highway alternative, and instead, takes more money from working people to pay for a transit system and not highways. It’s backwards and unfair."

"The program also hurts small businesses in New York that rely on customers from New Jersey and Connecticut," he added. "Finally, it impedes the flow of commerce into New York by increasing costs for trucks, which in turn could make goods more expensive for consumer. Every American should be able to access New York City regardless of their economic means. It shouldn’t be reserved for an elite few."


When DOGE has some time, maybe take a look at the MTA and see if there is waste.

Trump decried how the United States "has spent $200 Billion Dollars more than Europe, and Europe’s money is guaranteed, while the United States will get nothing back."

"Why didn’t Sleepy Joe Biden demand Equalization, in that this War is far more important to Europe than it is to us — We have a big, beautiful Ocean as separation," Trump posed of former President Joe Biden. "On top of this, Zelenskyy admits that half of the money we sent him is ‘MISSING.’ He refuses to have Elections, is very low in Ukrainian Polls, and the only thing he was good at was playing Biden ‘like a fiddle.’"

Please, dear Gawd audit the MTA!

That's the single biggest rathole in NYS.

While they're at it, raid all the authorities, shut them down and abolish them. That would be the greatest favor anybody could do the citizens of this godforsaken state.

I know guys that make more than their salary in OT in MTA. No one should be paying a tax for living too close to city to help fund them and yet we do. TBTA is right with them $100 for a five axle truck to cross GW and T-Neck.

Not even scratching the surface.

The amount of patronage and intentional waste "if you don't use your budget you won't get your budget" leads to millions of dollars of brand new equipment being thrown into dumpsters,... no scrap,... no resale,... just dump it, because "muh budget" and then they cry like stuck pigs that they're underfunded.

You have no idea how many MTA people have told me that they have personally thrown out a million dollars worth of brand new components. I can't be the lucky guy who's found the only ones...

Don't get me started on how the state uses authorities to play financial games. Things like, you know, selling a state owned prison to the housing authority. So the taxpayer that bought it and paid it off can buy it again and continue to pay it off.... until the next authority buys it from the taxpayer....
 
I remember doing government audits back in the early 90's - probably only a few years before I joined Noreast.com lol.

The biggest laugh was the salt line in public works snow removal - definitely use it or lose it one year to the next. Definitely liberal use of encumbrances. . Since global warming you'd think that budget line would go down there...
