Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, I mean NOODNICK, is a real piece of work; he has no sense of global markets. His comment this past week that American farmers can now export rice to Asia because of tariffs is the epitome of the Ugly American. Asians would take to American Long Grain Rice, our primary rice crop, just like Germans would take to Bud Light. Oh, and by the way, Asia's rice agriculture has a way of fulfilling their market's desire; they have thousands more years of experience in farming rice than the US.
To be fair, he was correct in his comment that Europeans hate our beef. They're used to grass fed beef, not our corn fed beef, our primary beef crop.
If he thinks tariffs will change fundamental historically patterns of shopping and taste just to get a cheaper product that is perceived as inferior, he is sorely mistaking. I'll moan and piss about the increase costs, but I doubt I'll change my wine buying habit which is almost exclusively European...
