Plastic/rubber tongs in oil ?

Not plastic or rubber. Look at them sitting in the full steamer tray on the paper towels. They do look plastic going in thou on the end. Poor lighting.

Heading back from a day and half in Southold at a BnB.. we stopped at Jerry & the Mermaid in Riverhead. Fried artichoke hearts, clams casino and mussels.
