Another crazy day on the bass outside Fire Island Inlet. It started out with a surprise which became dinner. I don't like snagging bunker if I don't have to. My castnet does a great job and many times I throw off the fishfinder. Twenty feet of water is not a problem for my ten foot, 2 1/4" mesh castnet with a very heavy lead line. Yesterday was a one and done toss for 40 bunker and a keeper bass.

I tried my new Dexter for filleting this fish. It worked great with the serrated backside of the knife. The serrated side slices through the skin like butter. The knife comes in two stiffness blades. I got the flexible and I'm happy with it but it will take a few fish until I'm really comfortable. Perhaps the stiff blade might have been better. One bad habit I have is wiping the blade after the skin cut to clear any scales. With this knife you don't want to do that. I wiped the blade with a small terry cloth rag and almost sliced my hand. The serrated part is a razor. Yesterday the ocean was alive with fish, whales and porpoise. A friend had a 562lb tuna.
