Whats on TV

Was watching this week's "Nature" this week last night which covered the epic sardine run along the southern tip of Africa. Saw the expected sardine feasting of seals, gannets, dolphins and sharks, and then a large whale popped on the screen which the narrator seemed to call a "Brutus Whale".

I thought I knew my whales, but had never heard of a "Brutus Whale" so I started Googling after the show with no results until I Googled "Southern African Whale feed in sardines" and BINGO, this popped up. I was familiar with the name of a Bryde's Whale, but never, ever thought that was pronounced in any form close to "Brutus"!!!

Brydes Whale in the Sardine Run

The Bryde’s whale (pronounced “broo-dess”), is named after Johan Bryde who helped build the first whaling factory in Durban, South Africa in 1909. The Bryde’s whale is the only baleen whale species that lives all year-round in warmer waters near the equator.
