Wish I had money to buy one of them. What a classic! My Grandfather worked there as a Carpenter in the 1930's. Brooklyn boat builder that employed over 6000 people !!! Was down in Islamarada about 20 years ago and went into the Saltwater Sportsman Store down there and there on display they had the Sister Ship of the Key Largo boat with a fighting chair on the transom. Massive cabin . Check if there is any kelp on the back, LOL. Every time I went down to Florida I had to watch Key Largo before I went. I'd name it Santana if I was lucky enough to own one.
If anybody can get a picture of that boat on the Wheeler Boat company site and post it here, I'd really appreciate it. I have trouble doing that.

The Pilar was the Boat on Display down in Islamarada, Fl.. When Hemingway purchased the Pilar it cost $5400 with a Chrysler Engine. The Wheeler Yacht Company tells it's history and it has a copy of the Price sheet they handed out to customers like Hemingway. Hemingway customized his boat and added a flybridge. A Custom yacht like that would be at least a million dollars today. Wheeler built boats during WW2 to patrol for U Boats off our shores. They purchased about 22 acres in Long Island City to expand their operations. The Company started off Cropsey Ave. Brooklyn . Amazing a company like that could get so large in a crowded NYC. During WW2 there were a bunch of big factories in NYC like the Brewster Aircraft company that built F4U Corsair Fighters like the ones in Baa Baa Black Sheep.
