When the Striped Fish have yet to arrive, go to Plan B

Boat went in late this year and it seems that everything is "ahead" so I've tried bass fishing twice this week, with the same "Zippidy-Doo-Dah" result. Well this Jerk needed to feel a jerk on the other end of the line so I hit my closest offshore cod humps for some C&R. In a normal year I would have fished for cod at least 6 or 7 times prior to the arrival of my Striped Nemesis...

Unlike the bass, the cod were there and biting this morning. I ended up with 10 to 20", along with 7 small pollock to 12", too small for "sangweech" size unfortunately.

Twice I was fooled in thinking I had a decent cod on, but both times I had tail hooked a 19" fish. Wondering if they're hitting the top of the jig and not the bottom?? Don't think I've had more than 2 hooked this way prior to today's pair, so something has changed...

I only had 70 minutes of fishing time, so now I'm left wondering if I had more time available, would have I been able to find a body of larger fish. Something to mull over the next couple of days if the bass don't show up.

No complaints, just a fine, quick trip...

It's a shame you have such a limited open season for Cod in your backyard, Roccus. Always one of my favorite table fish.

But as you noted something tugging on the line and putting scales on the deck still feels good!
