My old office was down there. You could still smell the fish on a summer morning. Giuliani was going to clear the mob out of the market. Subpoenas were issued and the Feds were going to come the next day to collect documents. The market burned down that night and never quite reopened.Mayor Giuliani, shut down da market many years ago... he sent everything up to da Bronx wit a state of da art distribution warehouse...

All the local businesses converted to small restaurants when it was moved to the Bronx and the area had a renaissance. They were all wiped out by Sandy, but the hood is once again being reborn. Too bad the oyster houses and barges didn't come back.
