Wind let up a bit and the sun came out around 13:30 and was bored silly, so I figured why not go out and try some striper fishing, even though it's a sunny and beautiful Saturday afternoon, something I would never try on LI. As I snuck up to my tide appropriate spot, I looked out towards the middle of the harbor and saw terns, gulls and cormorants massed with bass breaking below in large pods. I had the melee all to myself for over 45 minutes when it finally died on its own, there wasn't a single boat around motoring over, running down on the fish to get in the action, etc., just little old me, the birds and the fish, a virtually impossibility on the Island of Long, 40 years ago, and probably much worse nowadays.
Now catching was another story, there was so much bait around my offerings were mostly shunned. Ended up with 5 fish, 21-24". After that, I picked up the Admiral and we went on a boat ride, just a all-around lovely day.
