Yamaha announces changes to their F250 F300 outboards...

Digital steering and above prop exhaust venting at lower RPMs.
Uggghhhhh, we're approaching the "Scotty Paradigm". How much extra will that "Digital Helm" cost you??

@Roccus7 "In addition to smoother operation, Yamaha said, Digital Electric Steering obviates the need for steering pumps, hoses, hydraulic lines and other connections. Also, the system only draw amps when the wheel is turned.

With Thrust Enhancing Reverse Exhaust, the engine’s underwater exhaust is routed above the ventilation plate at rpm levels lower than 2,500, so the prop has better bite in undisturbed water."

Get used to it this is where it's all going. It sounds like a great advancement. No steering pumps, hoses or hydrolic lines sounds real nice to me. Now whether I can afford it or not is another story.

Beam me up Scotty!

Yes, they're heading that way. Turns out that the lower unit sacrificial anode on the Yammies no longer have that little skeg on it to compensate for the prop-induced starboard drift, even on the lower HP models like my 115 HP. Right now I'm trying to scrounge a supply of the "old versions"...

Affordability is a key question; adding $100s if not $1000s of dollars for a truly non-value added item IMO never sits well with me. I'm not a fan when somebody else makes a critical decision for me, ergo my hatred of Apple computers, "I'm an Apple Genius and I know better than you how you should use your computer." Yeah, I was programming DEC computers in Octal machine language before your parents hit puberty...

I noticed that about the finned anodes when I got the used Z300 and wanted to replace all the anodes. No more fin.

Last I heard Yamaha was making a big deal about adding Analog controls to the F series as an option over the digital control. Go figure.

How about the give you the analog controls and make the digital an option? Once again, non-value added and in a marine environment K.I.S.S.!!!!!
