Frank Sr and I headed out around 7Am. Heard there were some fish to the east so plan was go east. At the dock talking with other guys docked two boats over, they east was small fish, go west. Yesterday afternoon they found a good body of fish with a lot of 17” 18” fish and had three keepers. We passed them at the gas dock and we broke the sound and headed east. We got the stacks and lots of birds hitting the water and a lot of our black furry diving birds that show off and come up with fish in there mouths. Stopped and marked a lot of bait assuming sand eels. Picked two shorts and then nothing, lines up off to sunken meadow. Zero drift but we made do picked away at small fish, every once in a while a bigger fish would come up. When I say bigger I mean bigger then the 12” 13” 14” that we were catching. Made several different drops moving in the direction of back home and continued picking. Ended up back by the stacks. Tide flipped and so did the breeze now wind against tide. Started making our way bay to Huntington. Finally had enough and called it a day I was high hook with the sea robins 6 for me 0 for Frank. Probably 40/50 shorts for us. Now the zig zag part. We get back to the dock and the guys from the morning said Frank where did you go, Frank responded east.,He said I told you go west cold spring harbor they had plenty of 17” 18” fish with 6 keepers up to 22”. With that being said we should’ve went west and not east. Beautiful day on the water and we caught fish can’t ask for anything else. With graduations going on lots of helium balloons, I did manage to net three different balloons and pop them and tossed them in my garbage can on the boat. I actually stopped my drift three times to chase them down but better then leaving them.
