North Fork Mixed Bag

Yesterday’s charter for Chef Nader and friend Joe produced a very nice mixed bag catch. Since Nader loves Weakfish, we decided to start out with about 45 minutes drifting in the Peconic’s since the rumor was Weaks were still biting well. Sure enough in just 4 drifts we had our 3 fish limit to 5# all on long squid strips.

Next off to the Sea Bass grounds north of Plum I. and the SW breeze was quite a bit more significant than forecast. With the wind vs. tide situation there were some serious rollers to contend with. Nevertheless, we were able to work the area effectively for the 2-hour window and easily managed to put away a beautiful limit catch of biscuits to 4#.

Finally, with the wind and ebb tide now running together we gave it our best effort to find a keeper Striped Bass in the Gut. A total of 6 Bass found the deck for the last 2 hours of the trip but alas, the largest was only 25”. Plenty of arm breaking Blues filled in the gaps.

The only obstacle now to filling the box are the changeable weather conditions. Going to lose my 2 trips this weekend due to a persistent NE wind but hope to make things up with some re-schedules next week.

It’s freezer filler time! Give me a call.
