Yes it mutates on its own. However chances are infinitesimally small that the same mutation would occur here. I read the other day that there are already thousands of mutated strains out there, which is par for the course for a highly infectious virus.Despite what the article says - would think not.
I'm making the assumption that if it mutated there from the original strain - logic would dictate that is also going to mute here on its own accord - travel ban or not.
Or am I incorrect in my assumption?

The reason for the travel band against the UK is that the specific mutation is more contagious than all the other strains
