Coronavirus

Has covid 19 hurt or helped the fishing businesses....I believe it helped....limited loads and raised prices are still in effect....some have removed the limited load though and kept the high prices,,,80.00 to porgy fish etc.

Many who never had the time or inclination have gone out fishing and seem to like it. Having a banner year with porgys helped a lot.....a trip with lil to no fish can damper you right from the start, but this insane porgy bite has hooked many.......TONY this is an area I will defer to your expertise and comment on your highness :)

and not anyone died from da FLU... cellfish...
flu deaths over the period 2017 through 2019 less then 1000,000 a year Mr. C

* Last 3 seasons are preliminary estimates.
SeasonHospitalizationsDeaths
EstimateEstimate
2016-2017500,00038,000
2017-2018*810,00061,000
2018-2019*490,00034,000

At that rate it would take over a decade to equal what we've seen after 2 years from COVID my friend.

ASSuming all of the deaths were actually from Covid

W', Yes, some news reported sometime ago there were very few deaths from FLU last year. saying social distanceing and mask wearing were the primary reasons, I found that hard to believe... thats Y im asking... cellfish...

I saw the same article. And it makes a lot of sense that the numbers would be reduced for the flu based on all of the measures that were in place due to COVID. I haven't seen (though it's probably somewhere om the web) the numbers for 2020. I'd have to believe they were probably less then the 2019 numbers above because most were masking, distancing, etc. that year because of COVID.

That shit works..........

Don't understand why so many think it doesn't work for COVID.

Also don't understand why people poo poo COVID Death statistics saying they are not real (reporting deaths that weren't COVID related as COVID) but so willingly accept as fact numbers reported for the flu.

Perplexes me.

If one is accurate - the other must be.
Ya know......

Masks/distancing only work when your walking to your seat once you sit down as well as the other 50 people in the bar/restaurant masks are not needed.

As far as death stats not real guess you would have to know people who witnessed it. I do you dont believe everything you read its fine

Shhhh

experience in the real world does not matter

only spell check errors matter

mask might work
If they were ever used properly
And left on All THE TIME

they way the are put on taken of again and again
Touched , adjusted
Used abused reused
They are beyond a joke

the reason flu didn’t spread is because very few ppl if any went out sick
No one was allowed to work when sick
So the flu never had a chance to spread
It wasn’t mask and it wasn’t 6 foot of space

Chinese media says Maine lobster shipment was ‘Pandora’s box’ behind pandemic

A shipment of Maine lobster has been identified by Chinese media as a likely culprit for the start of the coronavirus pandemic, a claim a Maine official called “nonsensical.”

A recent article in the Sina news portal, one of the most read on China’s state-controlled internet, reported that in mid-November 2019, a batch of seafood from Maine was shipped to the “Wuhan South China Seafood Market,” also known as the Huanan Seafood Market, where the virus was first reported in late 2019.

According to the translated Sina article, within a few weeks, employees in the market began experiencing “symptoms of pneumonia of unknown origin one after another.”

Sina named “the Seashell Company” in York County as the original source of the lobster. The Seashell Company does not exist, but a map in the article identifies the company’s headquarters as those of York-based lobster exporter Maine Coast Shellfish.

The article suggests that a shipment of 55 boxes of chilled lobster arrived at the Shanghai Pudong Airport on Nov. 11, 2019, and was then distributed to 26 customers across the country, including an unnamed vendor at the Huanan Seafood Market.

“I am afraid it was this batch of American lobsters that opened the Pandora’s box of the epidemic,” the article said.

SeafoodSource.com, an industry news outlet, reported on the Chinese media reports Friday.

Tom Adams, president of Maine Coast Shellfish, said in an interview with the Portland Press Herald that he doesn’t know why his company was singled out, but suggested it could be an attempt to “deflect some of the bad publicity” from China for being the first place the virus was reported.

“To think that it originated from Maine, in a lobster shipment from 2019 seems pretty absurd to me,” he said, calling the claim a “grasp for straws.”

“We’ve been actively shipping all this time with no more scrutiny than any other company,” he said, noting the many shipments that come in and out of China each day.

Robert Long, spokesperson for the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention, also isn’t buying it.
“There is no scientific evidence to support these nonsensical claims,” he said in an email.

Adams told news outlet SeafoodSource that “Public health organizations from around the world have stated with certainty that imported food is not the cause of COVID-19. Maine Coast has no information supporting this claim.”

The U.S. CDC has said there is “no evidence” to suggest food is associated with spreading the virus.
Adams said the news has not had an impact on his business with China.

The Sina article also suggested that what it dubbed an “e-cigarette pneumonia” at York Hospital in July 2019 is further evidence of the virus’ origin. The hospital is close to Maine Coast Shellfish.

The outlet claims that these cases of e-cigarette pneumonia were kept secret in the United States, though it also claims that the cases were reported by the Maine CDC and local media.
