Firewood

The cutting starts next week and while it's hard work cutting and splitting (by hand) it's my kind of therapy. Happy New Year!
While in graduate school, my across the street neighbor was a tree surgeon and he knew I enjoyed splitting wood to clear my mind. Every term during exam week, he'd drop off a load of logs for me, something really appreciated.

I especially enjoyed splitting locust on a very cold morning. Slamming down the axe correctly on that long- grained wood would yield perfect splits, while singing "I'm a lumberjack & I'm OK..."

My land clearing guy left me two dozen oak trees from the lot I had cleared. It surprised me how big they looked once they were down. I'll be busy this winter.

if so disposed - I could use a new chopping block - mine's a couple of years old & coming apart - if you end up with a decent one & don't mind parting with it I'll pay ya for it
8-)

Im guessing with the snow and cold you are burning more than normal???
well the cold anyway - but it is normally about time to reorder anywho - went through about 1 cord - 1/2 of what I started with - haven't had any snow but one small dusting - don't really expect anymore more either - that's one reason I live here - don't want the Devil Dust

Go through about 2.5 cords a season - time to reorder & whatever isn't used goes toward next season - I've really only got about another 6 weeks of burning before it start getting too warm to burn. I notced this afternoon that I've already got Hyacinths coming through the ground.

Might be time to bump up the Spring Watch thread.

;)

Ya might wanna check some weather sites and look into the current potential forecast map coming up for your area.
I put the picture in the weather thread and don't want to double post it here....
