Firewood

So today I was talking with a buddy and he told me he got an oil delivery ‘cuz his contract for locked in pricing expires the end of this month so he topped off the tank. He took 135 gallons since his last delivery exactly 3 weeks ago
He got pretty pissed when I told him I’ve used less than 100 gallons since my last fill up in early October and keep the house at 75 with the woodstove??

Man I’m feeling good about all that wood I work my ass off gathering and splitting for free. LOL

275 Gals Max to heat my house all winter and no dealing with wood lol

Thats a combo of wood and whatever else u heat with or all wood?
The majority of my oil used is for hot water

pretty much all of it - I have an HVAC system with a heat pump

During the winter HVAC/Electric is supplying:
  • lights
  • minimual heat (only on those really cold mornings until I can get the stove going)
  • minimual cooking (think microwave - my stove/oven is propane)
  • occaionally - like when I take a shower - heating the bathroom before getting in there (electric baseboard) - heat never comes on upstairs unless it's like zero outside - haven't used that in like 7 years - I like sleeping in the cold with a ton of blankets
(y)

Otherwise it's my stove heating the downstairs. Generally to about 70 depending on the outside temperature. Which is all the warmth I want. Gets higher then that & I'm opening windows.

8-)

Damn,that’s over 6 gallons a day,something wrong there..

Propane hot water
That makes sense!
I have a separate oil fired water heater
The boiler runs just enough to keep the water hot enough for heat if needed for back -up
I'm pretty certain the majority of the oil I do use is for the water heater.
I'm going to look into eliminating the separate water heater with its own burner and adding an aqua booster or storage tank to the boiler.

A new tight house with a conditioned crawl space plus the heat pumps will very very nice. Add in the wood stove and we should be toasty. This is a picture of the Quadra Fire Discovery I we're getting. It's not big but rated for 800-2100 sq ft.
