Weather

it's over here it seems - snow has stopped & the sun is coming out
(y)
still very windy - bringing in more firewood - should have covered what I had on the back porch - eve though the porch is covered - wind drove the snow under & onto the wood I had there - should still be good to go - too cold for the snow to have melted & dapmened the wood

some power outages being reported due to downed trees - wonder how Capt1 made out being right on the water - I'll give him a call in a bit

Twin forks snowfall rates 4 to 5 inches an hour
I dont know if im seeing that much but easily 2-3” per hour
My boy convinced me to go out on the skis last nite so we waited til midnite when there was enuf on the ground
Once out there we realized it was coming down. By time we got home @ 2:30 it was all out pounding
Looking outside now we realize it was good we went we did cuz no way we going out in this?

as I mentioned earlier - really hard to tell with the way it blew around - forecasters saying 8 to 12 depending where you are (less Northampton County - more in Accomack) - if I had to guess I'd say closer to the 12' range - some 2 foot or greater drifts in my driveway & in the street in front of the house
Is this a record breaking event for the area??

very well could be - most I've ever seen in the 8 years I've been here is about 10 4 years ago which is pretty much the last time there was any sort of consequential snowfall

actually just looked it up - we are under the record but not by a lot:
17.5"

Snowfall Extremes
County1-Day Station2-Day Value
Accomack CountyONANCOCK 39 SW17.5"

the plows have arrived - shocking

That's earliest I've seen them after a storm since I lived here. And they've VDOT plows not Town. They usually pend their time out on RT 13.

Visibility down the street seems to have improved somewhat here. Still coming down. Have no idea what snow totals will be. The solar lights on my railings and the TrakRak on my truck are completely bare. That NEVER happens. All three of our doors have snow up against them from between 6 to 12 inches. Ordinarily that would be somewhat alarming, but evidently I have well insulated storm and main doors as there is no sign of melting and the snow is just powder, easily pushed aside. I am going to watch TV and shovel tomorrow.

I can't see the water, ~ 150 ft away, and lighthouse barely visible on Webcam. Blowing stink for sure...
