My fishing buddy bent the back wheel on his bike and, as he is wont to do, hands me the wheel and asks me to take a look at it.

I go to the local bike shop and show it to them and they start in with the spokes are four dollars each, and the tool for the cassette is a hundred dollars, or we charge $25 to remove it for you, then it's got to be straightened then adjusted, blah, blah, blah it will end up being $150 and a new wheel is $160 so it's not worth it... Blah, blah, blah.

Turns out Amazon has the tool for $25, I ordered a spoke key too and bought the three spokes from the bike shop to replace the broken ones. So for less than $40, plus my technician and me jumping on the wheel over a couple of wood blocks to unbend it, I got it running reasonably true and he's still riding around on it two years later.

B@$tard still owes me a lunch, BTW.

I wonder if the bike shop got the hint when I bought the spokes instead of an entire new wheel.
