These were the people who made history, and they are truly extraordinary.

Captain Lovell was a true American hero with all the right stuff. He opened an excellent restaurant near my home back in Illinois with his son as the head chef, which we often went to on special occasions. He would mingle quite often with the guests and was a pleasure to talk with, a very unassuming and humble man who believed in America, the united America that was the glue behind the Apollo Project. We just lost a great man...

There was a "smoking" room down stairs with much of his NASA memorabilia including heat shield core samples of all of his space capsules from Project Gemini and Apollo, his Navy flight suit and models of all of his space vehicles, and one very unusual one, a scale model of the Russian N1 rocket which was their moon rocket, even bigger than the US Saturn 5. That rocket blew up in one of the word's biggest non-nuclear explosions..
