The question is: What are the marks along the bottom from 16' down to 20'. There is some bait on the screen ...... the blue areas mid water. I don't know what bait it was. I do know what the other marks are that are tight to the bottom. Any guesses.

Cappy, IMO you don't have enough options there. I see bait at 2 fathoms Sand ells , killies or whatever else you call them down there. Then at 2 1/2 fathoms i see the bottom. What's the matter with the Port side of your screen ? Butters will mark about like that on my sounder but seldom see that many and on the bottom. Squid mark much darker red (solid) the way i have my sounder set up.

Well each machine, and area, has its own "personality". For example I could show you some machine pictures and where you'd swear the lobster trap buoy lines were BFT coming up to the surface, or a large school of bunker was a ledge coming up 30 ft from the bottom. IMO a machine picture alone is an incomplete story...

I agree, and would also add that adjusting the gain and the scroll speed will also have an impact. For the most part there are many readings that have similarities on all machines.
