This is the only boat I ever owned....a porta bote I used in fresh water with an electric motor...it folded up like a surf board...i had fun and sold it.....I would only consider a boat if I was retired and on or near the water.......When I want to go on a boat I'll pay .....and I do often enough

I loved the one I had. Took my young sons and friend out on a lake. Used a trolling motor and battery then moved up to a 4hp Mercury for local Great south Bay trips. Mine was from Cabelas, in forest green. Put rod holders on the transom, cleats on a seat or two. Same 12' one though. Eventually sold it to Smithtown Joe, Wader's buddy, a couple of years after I bought my present boat, the 99 Sea Pro DC180 above. I have never been on a party or head boat, but that could change in future years I suppose. I am two blocks from the boat ramp but not getting any younger or stronger hence going even lighter with the new kayak.

I owned 2 different Grady Whites and fished from them for 25 years. Both were great boats but neither one can hold a candle to my Albin 28. A 2004 Flush Deck model that was delivered to me brand new in October of 2003 and is about to start it's 15 year of service both as a recreational and charter vessel. When we were a bit younger the wife and I used to vacation aboard for 7-10 days at a time. The boat has been all over New England on those trips. As a 6 pack charter it is a really sweet ride I can easily handle by myself. Tons of fishing room and storage plus she rides like a tank in any sea condition.

Restored 1971 Eli Dory, originally built in St. James (so I'm told) ......... love this boat for fishing the River and Stony Brook Harbor.

My 21' Steiger is up for sale ....... will be starting work on a 1996 Privateer Renegade very soon. Bought thru an auction in Cape Charles, VA last May. Wader helped me when I was transferring it to a new trailer just outside Onancock. He also generously put me up for the night. I had the Mercruiser and outdrive removed. I plan on closing the transom and putting a bracket on it. Leaning towards a Suzuki 300 for power.

Boy i like that Eli, Cappy. looks like a fun boat. And good call on removing the outdrive and going to outboard. I have had 5 outdrive boats (I have one now) imo they are the most labor intensive power you can have. They do have their advantages though very few. Most of the engines are Auto or truck blocks that means easy and less expensive on the parts. Maintenance on the outdrive is costly and for the most part over engineered to the point of having to many parts. That's just my opinion and my experience with them.

I know that dosn't make me look all to smart still having one but i can repair them and boats with them are Cheap.

and you know what they say about owning a boat (besides that its got four sides and bottom that you throw money through,)
The happiest days are the days you buy it and the day you sell it. Don't look back !

Its just a common saying. That said it looks like i am selling my first kayak tomorrow and even though i have a new one waiting at The Dinghy Shop i am getting wistful. And i recall feeling bad when I sold my Renken in the 80s and my Portabote 15 years ago.

I have a Renken sailboat. They made it just for one year in 1983 then stayed with power boats.

my Renken was a '78 with a 110 Volvo Penta O/D. sold it in 86. got the portabote in 87 and a canoe in 89 or so. powered the portabote in 94, got the SeaPro in 99, sold the portabote around 2001 and started kayaking in 2003 or 4.

Of course I've heard that expression. Funny thing is I never felt 'happy' to sell any canoe, kayak, or boat that I've ever owned. Sure a couple cost me some more time and $$, but I loved them all. Even as I was (usually reluctantly) selling them.

When I bought my current boat I kept my other one for almost two more years. My wife was bugging me to sell it often so when I finally agreed to list it I made up a ridiculous price. Sure enough someone paid it. :p I didn't rip them off, boat was solid as a rock and I really didn't want to see it go.
