Coronavirus

I would doubt that
But I’m not an immunologist

the reagent is testing fir the virus not the Tigre
I don’t see where it would differ
Tiger swab goes in test tube add reagent
See result

Since I can’t prove other wise and there could possibly be a species specific test
I’ll concede the point

but I have my doubts

The current test for the virus in humans is not interchangeable with the current test used on tigers.

I dont know what test you are thinking there could possibly be but that was from the Bronx Zoo's chief veterinarian saying they are not interchangeable. I'm going with that.

and since I can’t prove otherwise so am I

there’s some internet evidence that the test are interchangeable and that species specific test do exist but not in great numbers

would not at all surprise me for a zoo ( that lives it’s animals ) to use any test they could get , and then to be less than honest about it

but I’m a cynic , worse a cynic with no proof

still have my doubts

Since the CDC has been saying we don't have to worry about our pets transmitting the virus I would think that a change where animals can carry the virus might be something we would want to know about.

OK, based on 37 years in the business...

If I am reading between the lines correctly, the Human vs. Tiger tests are basically the same, but there may certainly be differences on the sample handling end and detection. They each detect the COVID-19 viral RNA so any nucleic acid sequences detected and possibly amplified would be the same. However there may be differences in how the RNA is extracted from the sample, the methodology used for amplification, and what tag is used for detection. So yes, strictly speaking they're different, but only by nuances.

I firmly believe that the entire test "kit" used on the tiger was something custom formulated by a veterinary lab and not concocted by taking reagents from an FDA-approved kit for use in humans. Therefore nobody was denied a test so the tiger could get tested.

It's no great feat to make up an RNA test for a known viral sequence, any decent RNA scientist can make one in an afternoon that's good for running a dozen or few tests. Repeatably manufacturing millions of tests that will work all the time is a BIG DEAL and this is what the FDA looks for. The Bronx Zoo folks stressed that the cats got a test designed for them so folks didn't get upset thinking that a tiger got a test that they, or one of their loved ones should have gotten.

OK, to simplify the above here's an example. Say you and your buddy just ordered the same new boat, but you wanted a white hull, a Yammie, an open cabin and he wanted an E-Tec, a closed cabin, and a yellow hull. Strictly speaking the boats are different, but not by much, they're basically the same. HOWEVER each boat was manufactured for a specific person.

OK folks, start talking about more important issues...

Well dam what they have done already with the reefer trucks seems to be a better idea.I know they could get all the reefers they want. Seems that would be awful hard on the survivors never having seen or identified their bodies.

BTW, am I the only one who thinks Tweeting the news is FD up ?? What the hell are we doing ?

Sorry for the rant but i guess im loosing it with these people.

me think Dr. Faicu make get hell later, cause he’s reluctant to acknowledge the good effects of the hydrochlorideoxide, we’ll see... cellie...
