To install new cork and do it right you will need to strip the rod and start from scratch.You can do it from the butt end by opening up the cork to get over the wide end of the rod and then adding tape to snug the cork rings as they slide them down towards the reel seat.
With nobody really fishing for them over the last 20 years you would think they would show signs of rebuilding by now.I think water changes seals and comerants had a lot to do with the collapse as did the commercial draggers.
I used to fish the Laura lee when it started as a charter boat out there with the fishing club I belonged to.Back then in the early 70's cou caught more 16 to 18 inch keepers then shorts and getting one keeper for the day was un heard of.Oh to have those days back again!
I keep a spray bottle with dawn and water on the boat rinse the rods and reels first with the hose then spray with the bottle wait a couple of minutes and rinse again.
