Days and days of fishing frenzy’s on bass fishing the last few weeks. How many oversized fish are being mishandled, exhausted from fighting, posing for pictures. All to catch a boat limit of slot fish. And in the end what do we get out of stricter regulations. I’m all for catching fish but watching some of these videos I scratch my head saying how many of these fish are surviving. Maybe it’s me looking at it wrong.

Your right.

I couldn't agree more!

The boat departs at 10 and it takes 45 min to get to the ocean. The birds were working almost the moment we made it into The ocean. We started fishing by 11 and by noon or sooner we had a full Boat limit of slot size bass. So after we had our limit we fished catch and release from noon to 230pm. Then called it a day.

The Fleet continues the beat down on the bass outside the inlet. I for one can’t wait for the season to close. I love fishing but seeing amount of fish being taken is insane. Guess only time will tell what we will face the Spring.

I am hearing a possibility of a moratorium for stripers has anyone else heard this.
From NJFishing.com:

Not trying to fear monger here but keeping my ear to the ground since there are all sorts of rumors flying around from a full closure to some seasonal and area closures to status quo and gear and slot changes etc.

Your guess is as good as mine but I think the odds are very low for a full closure although "the science" would indicate otherwise because there would be way too much public and industry opposition.

What ever the case is, unlike other fisheries these decisions will not be made at a state level and our NJ council won't be able to decide what's best for us like adjusting season dates, slot size etc. About the only thing they and we can do is try influence the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) decisions..

Although no decisions will be limited opportunities for public comments, I would advise you to listen into this webinar to see which way this is headed

I agree that the number of Bass being caught and killed (intentionally or not) is up there.
On Wednesday, there were birds and fish from Breezy point, to the Verrazano to Sandy Hook and everywhere in between.

While I don't think there will be a moratorium I do believe fishermen will lose the spring or fall season. Same as they did with blackfish. Same as closing winter sea Bass.

It's obvious (just look at this website) that a percentage of recs don't know or don't care to release a fish properly.
