Mackerel Tinker Tube Rigs with a small jig on the end, trolled 2-4 knots on the surface , is really effective for the Spanish Mackerel. Maybe I'll try them next week.
Went out early today ,left Jones Inlet about 8AM ,nice calm inlet, incoming tide, bumpy outside . 1/4 mile outside the inlet I let out my Bird rigs/feathers on 2 rods and nice steady action , the Bonita were bigger this week, nice and fat , small Blues and this time out I caught a bunch of nice...
$100 on fuel ? I was thinking about pulling into Montauk Marine Basin and buy 3 or 4 gallons of gas because that's all I need for a full day off Montauk. I'd spend $100 on gas to tow it out there from Western Nassau.
If NY was for the little guy they'd build a ramp out there so average people...
I'd keep a boat out in Montauk if I had something comfortable to sleep on. A nice 35 footer with a nice cabin would be a nice summer home out there . Last I checked the dock would be 5-6 thousand for the season, winter storage is much cheaper . You go out for a week at a time it'll quickly pay...
Maybe the State should partner with a Marina out there, build a first class ramp ,parking lot , the marina can charge $25-$30 to launch , the state would maintain the ramp. The marina would get alot of business selling bait, fuel, doing repairs, transient docking.
Gone are the days when there were fishing reports in local newspapers and fishing and hunting writers with a lot of clout like Nick Karas who'd get on the phone and demand things from the state. Too bad Cuomo had to resign, he'd get the ramps. Kathy Hochul is a disaster for sportsmen.
Fishing fund money would pay a big chunk of the cost, they could charge $25 to launch until it's paid off. More than anything, special interests will try to block it. Look how long it took to get the first ever State Ramp on Peconic Bay and at Captree. They had plenty of land to build a ramp at...
Somewhere in Montauk they gotta find land to build a boat ramp. Next door to Star Island Marina/down the road from the Coast Guard Station ,there's a 5 acre parcel of woods that was for sale. Don't know if it's still for sale or not. Get money from federal fishing funds, charge $20 to launch and...
Went out Monday 8/14/23 to troll outside Jones Inlet . I didn't think I'd catch much trolling . A mile outside the inlet the water started getting super clear and clean. I didn't see many Bunker for Cobia fishing, so I put out 2 Bird rigs with 4 feathers and trolled about 6 or 7 knots thru the...
Too bad they're the enforcement arm of the radical far left in NY. I had great respect for them in the past when NY had divided Gov't many years. Now I pull into a rest stop to take a leak and they could arrest me because my gun wasn't in a fireproof gun case. You know they aren't looking the...
They also put those mini towers on Panga boats. I love my Panga 25, it's very seaworthy , but it rocks back and forth pretty fast and I wouldn't wanna be sitting in one of those towers rocking back and forth. It's perfect for flats fishing, fishing calm water .My Panga with it's very high bow is...
Did you know the FDR Drive in NYC was constructed with WW 2 bomb debris from England ? It was . Liberty Ships and other freighters would transport war material and other material to England . They loaded the empty ships with bomb debris so they'd have ballast for the return trip back to the US...
Went out Jones Inlet looking for Cobia on Wednesday 8/2. Fished east of the inlet and west , there were huge schools of Bunker west of the Inlet off Lido Beach, only a few small pods east of the inlet. No Cobia or Sharks that I saw. Here and there you'd see the water boil like something was...
They use 2 oz. bucktails down South for Cobia, they cast out and reel back in sharply jigging the bucktail. Wonder if it would work up here ? I have a bunch of frozen bunker, you think they'd take dead bunker floating down ?
Went out yesterday 7/25 and fished in Jones Inlet for 3 hours. Went directly to the inlet from the ramp because that's where I caught them last week. Got there about 10:30 AM , fished until 1:30 PM, incoming tide until about 2PM, brisk wind from the South . Solid fluke fishing , especially the...
