Finally made it out to Peconic Bay

Glad you made it out to Southold on such a beautiful day. Indeed, no time of year can match the consistency in numbers and overall size as the May/June bite on Scup in the Peconics. There are still some quality fish to be caught in the fall, but they are not as widespread as the Spring and it...

Green crab soup and climate change

Several years ago, they used to sell a "T" shirt at "Wego B&T that read: "In Southampton they call it Sushi. In Southold we call it bait" I think that applies here.

    Lots Of Sorting

I agree with Kevin's observation. You have been at this game long enough to help tilt the odds in your favor more often than not! Thanks very much for sharing, John.

Captain's Table - Rare Tog Open Spots, November 1

While my October schedule is completely full for North Fork Togging, I still have some daters available in November. One, in particular is a rare weekend opening on the 1/4 phase moon for 2 spots, Saturday November 1. Those who sign on will have the pleasure of fishing with a couple of my most...

I assume you were working the Gut for the Bass and Blues, John. If so that's more life than I have seen there in over a week. Well done!

    Garmin vs Simrad

Plenty of time to fish FL this winter. You need to hurry back up north and christen that beautiful vessel with some Tog!! Only 10 days until it's "game on" in the Sound and 14 days for the South shore crew!!

Captain's Table - Summer Like Fall Day!

I have not tried for Weakfish for the last 2 weeks but there were still some around last week from what I heard. However, they are starting to thin out. Porgies should be around until about the first week or two of October but by that time everyone is Tog fishing. If you can get out there this...

Captain's Table - Summer Like Fall Day!

Had the Joe party of 4 join me today with some magnificent summer like weather for a 6-hour combo trip. Primary targets were Seas Bass and Bluefish. On a flat Sound headed straight to my favorite CT side Sea Bass drop and the action on the end of the ebb to the change to flood was nice and...

I spoke with Paul this past Wednesday and he did say that he and Rachel will be running another boat in the Peconic's and Sound soon. He hopes to be up and running for Tog sometime next month.

ASMFC Striped Bass Draft Addendum III - Plain English Summary

The obvious problem here, is that Roccus does real science and statistical analysis. Our fisheries managers are a bunch of hacks too lazy to change their ways and do some real, hard work.

ASMFC Striped Bass Draft Addendum III - Plain English Summary

Sorry for the late reply but I had been fishing the last 2 days. I did listen in on the NY meeting via the Webinar format this past Wednesday evening. Before I go into more detail, I will quickly say that based upon Hartattack’s report, the NY meetings discussions and outcome were essentially...

Nice catch, Crabman! Regarding unusual catches, one of my customers caught an 8# Tog a few years that also appeared to have been caught in some type of trap for a period of time. Notice the indentations on the upper part of its body.

I learned about this late last night from a colleague out at Orient. It's no surprise as I believe Speedy was close to 90 and wanting to sell the boats for a while. Both boats were sold to the owner of the Frances Fleet in RI. Regardless of what the article said, it is my understanding that...

    Peconic Start Fleet Closes

I heard about this late yesterday from one of my colleagues at Orient. First of all, Speedy is almost 90 according to one of his Captain's whom I also know. He has been trying to sell the boats for a long time. Both boats were sold to the owner of the Frances Fleet in RI and one is already...
