Post your 2019-2025 Fluke Pix & Trip Reports Here!

Started out real early to get fuel and find the peanuts. They eluded me real good for a bit but perseverance paid off. Interesting how many mullet came up in the net. Could that be a great surf run in the next week? Anyway, got to the areas a little later than intended but dropped the lines in. First spot - zero. Ugh. Is this my day? Moved around a bit and found them good. Many peanuts sacrificed their young lives to assist putting 14 keeps in the boat and 7 shorts. Mind you, the shorts were 19 -19 1/4. Just an awesome and savage bay bite. Peanuts on a 3/0 hook with a 1/2 oz egg sinker on a light spinning rod. Each fish was a powerhouse on the fight, ripping drag and running around the boat, embarrassing me with each swing of the net. When the carnage was done, ended with a 6 3/4 pounder, a 5 even pounder and 4 3/4 pounder in the ice. Pictures are scarce as my son cancelled on my late last night. Last year he was the man for weight and numbers. Anyway, sent him pictures along the way to rub it in, LOL.
Be safe, not cold or rough enough to clear the water of the problems. Soon!

Wow, fantastic trip, Kevin. I'm hearing that right now live peanuts are indeed magic.

Fantastic!
What a day
That’s awesome!

The fluke fishing in the Fire Island area has been really good. Fish are fat and in the right spot, tide and bait, we hooked up a lot of fish. Nothing too big today but perfect for fillets. Five almost fish as Longcast said, 19" - 19 1/4".

Here's an interesting fish. It's the closest one. It had mono wrapped around it's body. The two inner holes is where the line went through it's skin and came back out four inches or so away. It was pretty crazy.

Nice catch, Crabman!

Regarding unusual catches, one of my customers caught an 8# Tog a few years that also appeared to have been caught in some type of trap for a period of time. Notice the indentations on the upper part of its body.

While on the subject of unusual catches, some years ago a friend was steaking out a nice Mako when he discovered a couple of bullet slugs in the fish. There were no visible signs of bullet entry wounds on the fish as they had healed over, and he appeared otherwise very healthy.

I was fishing with a friend of mine, now no longer with us, that did that once. He was new at fishing but he was one of those hunters that killed and ate everything. We get a mako free swimming at the side of the boat ad I'm cranking in a bait to try and feed it and then - bang! - he shot it. The fish quickly swam away and I was "what the hell were you thinking" He just shrugged.

He went on to be a great angler before mesothelioma took him out. RIP Bruce -Canyon Fever

Another commonality, my friend who captured the Mako with the slugs in it…….. RIP Captain Larry, F/V KRISTEN

Slept in a bit as I was out early Friday morning for a big goose egg. But still off the dock before the gray light. Moved around guessing where the peanuts might be this morning. They start popping the surface and I start thinking how to get to them without putting them down. Ok success. Let this stronger than wanted wind get me there. And then I see it. Another boat ripping along with a googan and a net on the front of the boat. And rolling over a bunch of peanuts as they were blinded by the school I was working. Mind you, plenty of schools popping. Will the wind get me there? Definitely going to kill it. Only 4 feet of water!! Tense moment but looks like I might get there. I throw and it has to be the best throw of my season. Looked just like the YouTube guys and it hits the water fully open! I wait patiently and start the retrieve. Success as the other boat comes ripping over to try. They are gone. See ya!

Start fishing by last week’s memory and nothing. Hmmm. Change it up and the fish start coming. Just smaller.

Finished with 12 fish, 2 keeps in some tough conditions of big wind and not the direction I needed. Called quits earlier than normal but still not a bad day.

Making lemonade out of lemons. Well done, Kevin, especially keeping your cool with the idiots!!

Thanks Capt. Mike. I agree with you. Seems that blackfish stuck his head where it didn't belong.

Had a nice ride home yesterday after a beautiful morning on the water. Caught our limit of six again after culling through many 19" fluke. At least there was action but I wish I was not handling that many shorts. Fortunately most were easy unhooks but you still are putting the death grip on his gills. I would have been happy to go home after catching our limit of 18" - 19" fish. That would have taken an hour. Two very respectful fish with one at 7lbs. and one at 6lbs. The other fat flaties were nice fish at 19 1/2 to 20".
