I hear hooks are very hard metal and may not be able to be cut by regular pliers. I added a small set of bolt cutters. If someone get a hook in them, I want to be able to cut off the barb to remove it.
Conger eels are ugly and I do not hear many people eat them. I saw them on a Cod fishing trip.
Someone told me that was the eel served in Japanese restaurants. It is served cooked. Anyone know if it is Conger eel? It may be ugly, but it tastes good when they make it.
I have eaten them a number of times. I would say they are definitely NOT gritty. Not sure I have ever had a “gritty” fish. If ever fry them up, and do a mixed seafood mixture, nobody will know. Someone mentioned they taste like Porgy and I think that may be true. The secret is just keeping...
Bergalls (Cunner) is something I used to catch way back, maybe in the 70’s 80’s. They were much bigger and numerous than I catch now. Now they are tiny. I do remember trying them. I fried them and if my memory is correct, they were good.

I'll never forget a day I went to go blackfishing on a Party boat. The Captain came down and said:
Today is a day to fish for people that do not know any better. If you want to leave, I'll understand."
The blackfish were chewing. But Saturday I couldn't buy a nibble. Maybe time to hang it up. In a small center console boat, its cold out there.
Which brings me to another point. How do you keep your hands warm??
Your care seems excellent. The only thing that comes to mind is that the leather sheath is wet. Try storing them outside the sheath and see if that helps. Put the back after your sure the leather is dry, or you need to go fishing.
This seemed like a better ldea than my pne piece Carhartt suit. It is Coast guard approved and some seemed to be used against the cold and in rescue operations. The only issue is it is a bit bulky.
