once the snappers are in I will not go kayak fishing without my killie troll. But when I still ran a stinkboat, the killie troll was left in the garage with the kayaks since I had the livewell.
only managed one snapper !! this morning. But his grandfather, a 17" blue, volunteered to be marinaded later in some Lawry honey bourbon marinade we haven't tried yet. Thought I had another 22" Weakfish, lol.
blue claw crabs will get them whether they are on the bottom or not. Could not get a single small snapper today so I may be back to weak-less Gulp! fishing sooner than I want. One snapper was bitten down to a chunk where the hook was, another killed by blue claw, some of the largest this year...
with just six keeper fluke this season, and none for two or three weeks, I fear I may not see another, but that is still more than I netted last year. What has made it for me is the weaks, on the snappers, and surprisingly, usually on slack tide. Have now taken home seven of the beauties...
besides what few weaks or fluke I take home, we buy a lot of salmon at ShopRite. SWMBO puts a dressing on it and bakes them. Delicious, as good as any restaurant which we always order when dining out. (These implants don't like steak !) But yesterday we decided to buy flounder and these...
and this morning after two really good fights, both (probable) weaks were not to see the net. two other snappers met their demise to the plethora of blue claws in the area. I thought I waited long enough before putting the reel in non-reverse.
Evidently not.
Have now taken home just one less weak than fluke this season. Nothing to brag about but doing better than last year. Got this guy (or gal) while drifting to my "third favorite spot", feeling lazy instead of paddling there. Very last of the outgoing, backbay, no wind, green flies. Livelining...
Season 5 of Fauda on Netflix is coming back on Sept 8. Like the politics or not, this has to be one of the most accurate series in depicting espionage and counter terrorism. (Fauda is Arabic for chaos.) The main character "Doron" is exceptional, as is the rest of the cast. Season 5...
I kayak fish the backbay three hours a morning averging four times a week. Last year the few keepers I got were all in the 20s. This year, although I have caught more, were all "just" 19 or 19 1/2. For the last two weeks I have only been livelining snappers. Lost a probable keeper...
Not that different here. Many simply find “it’s not for everyone.” I paddle probably an average of four times a week from late May through September and all just off waterfront homes. The rich waterfront people don’t bother to sell them but rarely use them. “Look at me, I am...
EVERYTHING is a compromise, lol. Perhaps someone the fishes the north shore will chime in. I know from my friend in Rocky Point that access is an issue. Have you gone to a kayak shop? My fave is The Dinghy Shop but that is in Amityville. I believe there is one in Northport and another in...
For two weeks I have been catching up to the limit of 5 for livelining. All taken on a popper rig and not near the docks but most of the way out of the creeks and near the open bay. Certainly not as plentiful as just a few years ago. Managed a 19" weak and a 20" fluke Sunday and Monday...
I have never used or wanted a pedal kayak but your budget will likely only get a used one. I started kayak fishing 21 years ago at the age of 54 and by ten years ago was hardly using my stinkboat at all, and eventually sold it 5 years ago. Except for livelining snappers, I eschew bait...
