1996 Privateer Renegade I/O to Outboard Conversion

Finished up the shrink wrap job ....... started some demo work. Hoping at this point the tank will test out ok.

It is shrinkwrap plastic, 7 mil ........

I didn't want to shrink it all down so I could re-use it again more easily in the future. If you zoom in on the bow you can see where I shrank it tight. I'm hoping that doing that will keep the upcoming gale from blowing it off.

Ahh I see it now I never you could "semi" use shrink wrap pretty cool (y)(y)

Nice project Cappy, I'll be a watchin. Good choice with the 300 Zuke. I have fished with a bud that had twin 200 or around there. and i thought they were the cat's ass. Very quiet and smooth through the power band. Was your transom wet when u pulled the od.? Stringers good ? Good call on doing a test on the fuel tank much easier now then after you have your deck down. Ok so take lots of pics. along the way. Some of us Love this shit. :)

Hey, i didn't even know we had a "Boats repair and restoration" section. Nice going.

Thanks ...... I'm easy on the throttle and like babying my outboards. I'm hoping to run at a nice easy cruise with the tach at
4200 - 4600 rpms.

You're going to love this, but I constantly have "babied" my 4 stroke outboards, cruising at 4200 - 4600 rpm, to both be gentle w/the engine and to keep fuel costs down. Well I got scolded by the local Yammie dealer about not running the engine hard enough which was the probable cause of my oil gunking up this past year, at least according to him and the area Yammie tech representative. Guess I'm going to push the throttle a bit harder and start running at 4800+ rpm.

BTW, I love your project, good luck!!

WHAT ?? wow some guys will go ta any extreme to justify going Fast !!. :) JK Dom, i never heard of such a thing. I can tell you right now their are probably about a gazillion Yammies just down the cape alone. Guys that mostly troll. Day after day all season long. Never have i head of oil gunking up from lower revolutions. To me ,i would be thinking Operating to cold, Thermostat stuck open/to low a temp. etc. etc. If a dealer or mechanic ever told me that he would be having that engine back !!. I can't even imagine a company would let a product out of his factory with what could be considered a major flaw. Anyway we'll have to discuss this at our next Luncheon. :)

Sorry for the off tract Cappy.

I had a conversation with a Yammie rep at the boat show 2 weeks ago and when I said I baby my engines he admonished me too. Said they are built to go full throttle. When I get my new motor for my boat I'm still going to baby it that's just the way I am.

Thanks guys ....

Sometimes I wonder if that Yammie "Run it wide open" mantra is a carry over from their 2-stroke days. No one is going to convince me that constantly running a 4-stoke at 6000 rpms is going to give it a longer life as opposed to running easy. I do believe in goosing it up for a minute or two on the way in .......

I sold the outdrive and engine to a mechanic who pulled it as part of the deal. He said the transom and mounts looked good. I'll find out when I start cutting the hole back.

Stringers good ?

I'm hoping ...... otherwise I'm in for way more work than I originally thought.

It was just recently created ...... I know, it is a little hard to find when looking at the list of forums.
