Saw some You Tube Video's , a Coast Guard recruiter said those in the Auxiliary can do everything in the Coast Guard except Law Enforcement and Warfare. They can get advanced Navigation training and other training from the Coast Guard and if qualified they could get called up to Active Duty.
They do vessel inspections and can participate in Search and Rescue after Boat Training and if the Civilian is FAA Certified and has a plane - He or she could conduct search and rescue. They can fly out there looking for people .
It's all Volunteer and the USCG provides liability insurance for your boat, you can't be sued by a third party and if you get injured or killed you get healthcare or a death benefit. They consider Volunteers a force multiplier in times of need.
On the back of the Auxiliary ID Badge they indicate you're to be protected by the Geneva Convention !!!
Members get discounts at stores , can shop at the Military Stores , Can join the USCG Credit Union, get zero interest emergency loans.

The Auxiliary CG Members wear the same Blue Uniform/Boots the Active Members wear , you get a name patch and on the right it Says USCG Auxiliary.
Very cool you can serve like that in the Coast Guard as a Civilian. It's like being a Volunteer Fireman the way they involve Civilians.

Last summer I was at Wantagh Park with my Boat and 3 or 4 Guys came into dock their USCG Auxiliary Boat. They were all wearing Those Blue Coast Guard Uniforms and had those Orange life vests on. I thought what the heck are Coast Guard Guys out on an Auxiliary Boat ??
