Back yard critters

I have a possum in the shed, squirrel ripped a loose soffit down and then a loose facer board from under the roof. The possum evicted the squirrel and I will evict the possum and seal it up today Or Monday.

I did not see how bad it was since its in the back, overdue critter eviction imminent

Be wewy, wewy quiet, Jack is hunting possums!!!

These foggy/dewy late summer mornings show some great spider webs. This morning there were some interesting ones made by some very ambitious spiders.

Here's one 3 ft above the ground:

Here's another:

That's nothing great, BUT you have to see that it's 10' above the ground, a large-scale project.

Been sitting here for the past 10 minutes watching a Mama grey squirrel moving house. She's been scurrying past me with a decent sized baby squirrel in her mouth heading into the woods, only to come back the other way empty mouthed. She's repeated this 5 times. Wonder if she and her family got evicted???

Astoria has wild life; this critter is perched on the railing around our water tower. When he/she is there the Crows and Pigeons disappear. Maybe some kind of Falcon? Photo is the best I could do trying to enhance an iPhone picture.

So maybe I've got an Uber Predator, or it could just be suburbia.

We just had to dispose of a decapitated squirrel. And let me tell you, that smell.

Now, I would ordinarily just @$$ume a loose cat, since I'm on the south shore of Long Island and the biggest thing that usually roams here is possums and raccoons. But today while I was firing up the grill I met a squirrel that clearly had a broken back. It was dragging it's hindquarters and unfortunately not to shy of humans.

So, does anybody have any suggestions? Do we think it's coincidence, or is there a more significant predator at work here?

And what kind of trap should I be using?

No head is cat for sure. Coyote would have eaten the whole thing, as well as a dog...

We used to have a number of stray cats around. Now I think there's just one and I rarely see it anymore, so I kind of disregarded that idea. Looks like I need to up my surveillance game.

We were just discussing that possibility too. That's pretty likely and probably just pure coincidence that they happened around the same time. It's too bad we don't have the option around here to just shoot the poor thing. It's only going to starve to death, or buy the farm at the paws of that cat.

Thanks for the input everybody. I guess I'll have to start looking for a cat trap.

Bumble bee on one of my Sedum( live for Evers) I thought he was dead, but no. I pet him and he rolled over. That was a hour ago, just checked he’s back in the upright position sleeping. He’s in a nectar coma????
