Back yard critters

If it matters to you, try hanging some ‘thingy’ on the door.

Thingies, schmingies... With over 20 windows facing the water, 8 of them "picture windows", a 16' glass slider and an 8' slider, we have daily "bird bangs". Depends on wind direction and lighting. If conditions are such that the windows act as mirrors, there are more strikes period, we tried some thingies, but saw no change.

Good news is that most birds shake it off and fly away. However, if they're like the "Norwegian Blue", and singing with the "choir invisible", the Guard Fox picks them up on his nightly rounds...

this isn't a regular occurrence - first time it 's happened as a matter of fact - just weird twice in one day - I've had more trouble with birds coming down the wood stove chimney
They are trying to nest, had a pair of Sparrow stuck in the downspout of my gutter two weeks ago

yeah - happens every Spring - still don't know how they get down there - the ones coming in that way are large blck birds - I don't know how they fit through the "grate/slots" in the chimney cap - they're at least two to three ties the size of the openings

First time it happened Max sorta alerted me to them. I have glass on the door to the stove. Saw him just sitting in front of the stove for like 5 or 10 minutes with his head swiveling right, then left then right again. I'm thinking "what the hell is he staring at?".

He was tracking the bird walking back & forth inside the firebox.

Speaking of birds trying to nest. I was helping my friend with the Grady again and birds are nesting in the trailer tongue. When the boat goes to the ramp, they just wait patiently on the fence for the nest to come back. He says they're there every year.

Was cleaning out the front garden area & I should have been ready for it - 3 foot Hog Nose hiding under some debris left by last years ferns. Startled the piss out of me.

He went up like a Cobra hissing
I took off in one direction.
He took off in another.

Dang Snakes.....................

I'm not very much into snakes myself. That one looked mad.

They're baaaaccccckkkkkkkk!!! Peripheral vision just reported "Large bird flew by". Initial analysis reported probable Osprey, but could not confirm. "Hmmm wonder if they're back, along with the Alewives?"

5 min later, low-level Osprey w/Alewife in talons fly over, both critters confirmed!!

Damn Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom today. Saw a few deer while walking, not that unusual, but for the first time in years, so an actual Snowshoe Hare, not a pile of poop or tracks...

I had this guy show up uninvited. It's mating season for gators here and I'll be back on Long Island in a few weeks! After seeing the tog being caught I knew it was time!

had something similar a few years back..................

Had gone down to visit mom & my stepdad in Weeki Wachee Florida (home of the famous Mermaid Shows. They lived in a gated golf community with a lot of ponds. I decided to go down & throw a few casts into one of the ponds in the back of their house. Suppose to be stock with small mouth bass.

Few casts - nothing.

Then I noticed what I thought was a 4 foot log floating in the pond. Made a couple of casts in that direction just to see if anything was hovering about by it. Still nothing.

Then the log began to move.

Toward me.
:cautious:

Then I noticed the "log" seem to have a tail.

Still coming in my direction I then noticed that the "log" had what seemed to be nostrils.
:oops::oops:

It then occurred to me that it wasn't a "log" but a 4 foot alligator headed in my direction - picking up some speed.

Deciding maybe I didn't want to fish anymore - I beat it out of there.
8-)

What's your hypothesis? Saw this orange rope lattice with small, orange flags over a small pond with an outlet to the bay. I'm guessing this is some sort of Osprey protection. Anyone else have any ideas???

Neatest snake I could never get to bite me. They’ll strike but not make contact. So you push your hand at them when they strike. Usually upon contact they immediately roll over and play dead like an opposum will. We had all black where I grew up.

It is very interesting, how would this protect the Osprey?
I hope it is, since that’s a good thing.

And if its not for that, would be for some kind of tree clearing marker for guides as to what not to cut?

Or , as Ed and I would say..... ALIENS.
