Mocking Birds have taken over my whole backyard.

There's two nests & any bird (regardless of size) that comes into my yard is driven out. It's pretty wild.

They even went after a hawk.

they don't dive bomb me - I guess they're use to seeing me back there - went after a couple of squirrels this morning & a cat

It was pretty cool with the squirrels - you'd see the squirrels jumping from branch to branch with the birds hot on his tail

This is a front yard critter.
It’s on my front lawn .
I’ve never seen one before. Has anyone else? It’s about a inch and a half long and a inch wide

google says it's a Meloe

Meloe is a genus of blister beetles commonly referred to as oil beetles. The name derives from their defensive strategy: when threatened by collectors or predators they release oily droplets of hemolymph from their joints. This fluid is bright orange and contains cantharidin, a poisonous chemical compound. Wikipedia
Scientific name: Meloe
