Back yard critters

Saved by the auto blind retraction!!

Tom was "fighting" with his reflected image this AM, gobbling away at full volume. I was waiting for the Admiral, who doesn't do early AM watches, to tell me to shoot him so she could sleep, but the electric blinds, that are set to open at dawn, intervened. As soon as they starting going up, he beat feet for the woods.

Later today, I do expect a work request from Fleet Headquarters on how to prevent any future occurrences...

I just had one delivered from Maine going in the smoker this week I hope

had a coyote in my backyard a couple of days ago.............

That's the second one since I'm living here. First one was about 8 or 9 years ago. He was in the driveway & Max was going nuts trying to get at 'em.

Feel really badly today. Was weed whacking in my white birch forest and suddenly a woodcock half flushed and flew for 10" to do the wounded bird act. I realized that I must have stumbled on her nest, and low and behold, there was a nest at my feet with 4 eggs in it. Didn't seem to have done any damage and I quickly moved away, not even taking the time to pop a photo.

I hope she got back on her nest and the chicks will hatch. This is the first time I've ever seen a timberdoodle nest...

I haven't seen any rabbits around for a few weeks. Last trace I saw was fur on the lawn.

The other day a hawk landed on my shed. First time I've seen one right here. I wounder if it's taken up residence, and is the reason the rabbits are gone?
If you'd like some more rabbits, I have 2 families living here. One under my deck and the other under my shed. And both trying to dine on my vegetable garden.

It's the Roccus Critter Nursery this year. Here's "Thomasina" and some of her 8 chicks brood that visits the grounds at least 2 times per day. Not pictured is a baby porcupine which beat a death sentence upon the pleas of my granddaughters, "Oh PopPop, he's so cute!!" At least he's just been munching on lawn clover. Now that his defense team is gone, the second I find him in a tree we'll be having a burial at sea...
