PP still has problems. I've had several customers have mysterious breakoffs while hooked up to bass. Fish were away from the boat and in deep water so it wasn't keel or structure related. Usually the partoffs were from 3 to 20 feet from the rod tips. I naturally blamed a nicked guide and locked up drags until I started hearing about PP's problems. One night the same guy's 80lb red PP parted twice in 10 min on consecutive hook ups. Sounded like guns shots going off both times.
Roccus... I respooled one of my personal heavy tog setups with 50lb X-9. I had Suffix 832 for a couple of seasons and it was getting close to the backing, so on Lep's recommendation I bought the X-9. I don't like the super thin braids either. The combo of cold, wet hands and sausage fingers doesn't make for a quick retie during a hot bite. In my hands at least, the X-9 felt thicker. I don't go by the listed diameters either, thats just marketing ploy. Gotta catch the fisherman before it catches the fish.
Lep... Thanks, I do like it. 50lb busts off 60lb and 80lb flouro rigs at the dropper knot.
