Block Island

Well my son and I have been planning to make a trip to Block Island for about a month now, between work and other obligations we decided to go yesterday, weather report called for 5 to10 not winds and wave hights 2 feet.
Friday morning I hooked the boat up to my truck and off to the gas station to fill it up, I also wanted to make sure the boat brakes were working so I did a couple of emergency brake stops to make sure, all was good.

Saturday my Son Charles came over and we loaded up the boat and did a systems and safety check, we were good to go.

Sunday morning we hit the road and 2 hrs later we were in Rhode island Narragansets state boat launch, we were the only boat there, it was 4 in the morning.
We dropped the boat in the water and I tied off to the dock, we waited till it got a little lighter out, in the mean time other boats started to showup.

We headed out around 5am, seas were not bad and we headed to the southside of Block, on arrival the sun was just coming up and so was the wind, by the time we found 70 feet of water the wind was 20+ knots and the waves stated first 2 feet then 4 and 5's for good measure, It was tuff trying to fish in these conditions but we managed to put 2)20 in cbass, 3) Fuke to 24 inches in the boat before I decided to move to the southwest ledge of Block island where other small boats were hiding out. We waited there for over an hour before we decide to venture back, it was supposed to lay down in the afternoon, I started to head back out but it had gotten worse, people on the radio were talking and some saying 5 to 10 my ass lol.

I made my way to old harbor and that's when we decided were had had enough and I waited for the Ferry to block so I could stay behind him and head back to Narraganset.
We weren't the only small boat that had that idea , so the Ferry comes out and I get right behind him, He was doing 20 knots and even with him breaking the water it was still a rough ride for us.
As soon as we got with in 10 minutes of the west wall it had laid down, go figure, so we decided to fish close to Narraganset, as beat up as I was my heart wanted to fish the wind mills again, it would have been a 20 minute ride to get back out there but we stayed and it was a good choice, on our second drift I thought I snagged the bottom, then I realized it was a big fish and the head shakes told me it was a nice fluke, we were fishing 80 feet of water, when the fish came to the surface my son was ready with the net, scooped up the fluke and a 29 inch fluke hit the deck.

I didn't have a scale but I'm pretty sure this fluke was a dd, we stayed for a couple of more hours but to add insult to injury the black flies moved in and that was the last straw.
We headed in and loaded up the boat for the ride home. The weatherman got it wrong again, but still it turned out to be a nice trip in the end, I was happy and my son was impressed with my catch, that made it worth the lumps and bumps. My son did ok too, 2 23in fluke and a 22 in cbass, if the weather was not a factor, I know we would have come home with our limmt of fluke and cbass. some pics of the trip.
